In a nutshell… Our client is an established organisation within the food packaging industry, who are looking for an experienced and highly driven Business Development Manager to join their external sales team. This is a fully remote working position, with the role split approximately 70% business development and 30% account management. This is an ideal opportunity for a sales professional who is motivated by winning new business, enjoys opening doors and is driven by achieving commercial results.

The successful candidate will manage a small portfolio of existing customers, but the primary focus of the role will be on identifying, developing and winning new business from food processors and packers. You will be responsible for building your own pipeline, creating new opportunities and converting prospects into profitable long-term customers.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in packaging or food/FMCG, with a proven track record in external sales and new business development. You will be commercially driven, resilient and tenacious, with the confidence and motivation to proactively seek out new opportunities.

What's involved for the Business Development Manager…

  • 70% business development and 30% account management
  • Identify, develop and win new business within the food processor and packer market
  • Build and manage a strong pipeline of new business opportunities
  • Proactively prospect and open new customer accounts
  • Develop and maintain strong customer relationships
  • Manage and grow an existing customer portfolio
  • Identify customer needs and provide appropriate packaging solutions
  • Work closely with internal teams on NPD and bespoke product development
  • Take responsibility for account profitability and sales growth
  • Provide regular sales, pipeline and market updates
  • Maintain accurate customer and opportunity information within the CRM
  • Regular travel to customer sites

What you'll need…

  • MUST have 3+ years' external sales experience
  • Proven track record of winning new business
  • MUST be driven and motivated by business development
  • Ideally from a Packaging, Food FMCG, or Equipment Sales background
  • Experience selling to food processors, packers or similar end users
  • An existing network within the food industry or packer sector is highly desirable
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills
  • Commercially driven with excellent communication skills
  • Confident, resilient and tenacious approach to sales
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
  • Experience using CRM systems, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Full, clean driving licence
