The Inventory Controller is responsible for maintaining accurate stock records and ensuring the integrity of inventory across the fulfilment centres. The role plays a critical part in supporting operational efficiency and customer satisfaction, by ensuring stock is correctly received, stored, tracked, and reported. Working closely with warehouse operations, customer experience, and systems teams, the Inventory Controller ensures good stock health and ensures any discrepancies are identified, investigated, and resolved promptly within a fast‑paced e‑commerce 3PL fulfilment environment. The Inventory Controller is a key operational specialist, acting as the central point of accountability for stock accuracy within the fulfilment centre. The role requires a high level of ownership, attention to detail, and the ability to influence operational teams to follow best practices, ensuring inventory integrity is maintained as the business scales.
Key Responsibilities
- Inventory Accuracy & Control
- Maintain high levels of inventory accuracy across all stock locations.
- Perform regular cycle counts and full stock audits.
- Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies, including missing, damaged, or misallocated stock.
- Ensure all stock movements are accurately recorded within the Warehouse Management System (WMS).
- Stock Reconciliation & Reporting
- Reconcile physical stock against system records and identify variances.
- Produce regular inventory reports for internal stakeholders and clients.
- Support month‑end and year‑end stock reconciliation processes.
- Maintain clear audit trails for all stock adjustments and movements.
- Produce and maintain stock occupancy records.
- Operational Support
- Work closely with inbound, picking, and dispatch teams to ensure correct stock handling procedures are followed.
- Provide guidance to warehouse teams on best practices for stock control.
- Support operational teams in resolving stock‑related issues impacting order fulfilment.
- Ensure correct stock rotation (e.g., FIFO / FEFO) where required.
- Set up and manage effective replenishment records.
- Frequent stock consolidation and space optimisation controls.
- Customer & Stakeholder Communication
- Liaise with Customer Experience and Account Management teams on stock‑related queries.
- Provide timely updates on inventory issues affecting orders or client accounts.
- Support client reporting requirements with accurate and timely data.
- Support onboarding of new customers.
- Systems & Process Management
- Ensure effective use of the Warehouse Management System (WMS) for all inventory processes.
- Identify system or process improvements to enhance stock accuracy and efficiency.
- Support implementation of new systems, processes, or client requirements.
- Analyse weights and dims of products to ensure space optimisation.
- Continuous Improvement
- Identify root causes of stock discrepancies and implement preventative measures.
- Contribute to improving warehouse layout, processes, and stock handling procedures.
- Support operational efficiency by reducing stock errors and improving accuracy.
- Support special projects including reconfiguration and relays.
- Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all inventory processes comply with health and safety standards.
- Follow company procedures for safe handling and storage of goods.
- Support audits and ensure compliance with internal and external requirements.
