The Aycliffe Manufacturing Plant is part of a multi-site international group. The manufacturing process is complex, using high-value capital equipment and involving a mix of mechanical, electrical, and process engineering technologies. The site manufactures a variety of ‘Filtering Face-piece Respirators’ and ‘Reusable Respirators’ as part of 3M’s Personal Safety Division. The site has a high emphasis placed upon equipment availability and adherence to world-class standards of operation and maintenance.
The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a Senior Manufacturing Technology Engineer at our Aycliffe Manufacturing Plant in County Durham, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Initiating, leading, and coordinating projects in your assigned manufacturing area aimed at productivity improvement, quality improvement, waste reduction, cost reduction, safety improvement, and manufacturing strategy.
- Providing day-to-day technical support for your assigned area, working closely with a cross-functional team.
- Generating and maintaining product and process documentation to comply with plant registered standards.
- Taking ownership for an assigned manufacturing process with regard to process variation, quality, waste, and unit cost.
- Gathering and analysing production data to ensure area targets are met and drive improvements.
- Collaborating with operations and quality teams to deliver agreed ambitious targets.
Your Skills And Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who meet the following minimum requirements:
- Degree level in an Engineering discipline.
- Knowledge of manufacturing continuous improvement methodologies and tools such as Lean, Six Sigma, TPM.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of statistical methods and software.
- Sound numerical analysis skills.
- Experience of leading process improvement projects.
- Experience of problem-solving for manufacturing issues.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels across the organization and to facilitate cross-functional groups for problem-solving activities.
- Highly motivated with the drive and energy to lead and influence change.
- Good team player able to work well with and influence others.
Additional knowledge / nice-to-have skills / preferred qualifications
- Proven track record of consistently delivering against targets.
- Ability to plan and deliver on project schedules.

Job Specifics
Location Information - based at 3M Aycliffe - The role will be office-based but a significant proportion of the working week will be spent observing and interacting with processes on the shop floor. Working pattern - Full-Time - standard days.
