The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a Senior Application Engineer for 3M’s Industrial Adhesives & Tapes Division, you will support the adoption of 3M bonding solutions across industrial and transportation markets, with a strong focus on automotive interior applications. You will work closely with Sales, customers, and internal technical teams to develop, validate, and implement adhesive and tape solutions that meet customer design and manufacturing needs. You will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Engaging with customers, OEMs, Tier suppliers, converters, and partners to understand requirements and recommend suitable bonding solutions.
- Supporting application development, validation, and integration of adhesive and tape technologies into customer designs and production processes.
- Providing hands‑on technical guidance, troubleshooting, and performance analysis.
- Collaborating with Sales, Marketing, Product Development, and global engineering teams to enable design-in opportunities and support new product introductions.
- Conducting testing and analysing results to create clear, actionable recommendations.
- Preparing technical reports, guidelines, and presentations for internal and customer use.
- Providing customer insights to guide product development and innovation.
- Ensuring adherence to 3M safety standards and compliance requirements.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who meet the following minimum requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, materials science, physics, or chemistry.
- Previous experience in application, process, or manufacturing engineering within industrial or transportation markets (automotive OEM/Tier preferred).
- Experience supporting product design, validation, and customer application development.
- Understanding of adhesives/tapes, bonding methods, and assembly processes.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and validation requirements.
- Experience with laboratory testing and material performance evaluation.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Valid UK driver’s licence.
Additional knowledge / nice‑to‑have skills / preferred qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Experience with adhesives, tapes, or structural bonding technologies.
- Exposure to CAD/FEA teams and lightweight material applications.
- Understanding of automotive manufacturing environments and quality tools (IATF, APQP, PPAP, DFMEA/PFMEA, 8D).
- Experience with NPIs and product development programs.
Job specifics
- UK-based remote role, ideally located between the Midlands and Bracknell/Berkshire.
- Travel: 3–4 days/week with customers; 1–2 days/week at Bracknell lab; limited international travel.
- Full-time position.
