We are seeking a skilled and reliable Gardener / Horticultural Operative to deliver high-quality grounds maintenance services in line with established horticultural standards and specifications. This is a hands-on role requiring a high level of practical gardening expertise, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to health and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out grass cutting, strimming, hedge trimming, and clearing of leaves and litter
- Plant bedding plants, trees, and shrubs
- Undertake shrub bed planting and maintenance, including pruning and division
- Apply chemicals in accordance with regulations and best practice
- Maintain, set out, and mark sports facilities
- Perform general soft landscaping works such as top-soiling, cultivation, seeding, and shrub-bed renewal
- Operate vehicles, plant, and machinery safely and responsibly
- Ensure all vehicles, tools, and machinery are kept in good working order and comply with Health & Safety and Road Traffic Regulations
- Report any defects in tools, equipment, or machinery to the line manager
- Take reasonable care for your own safety and that of others
- Cooperate with managers and supervisors to meet statutory health and safety requirements
- Report incidents, accidents, hazards, and faults promptly
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Proven experience in horticulture or grounds maintenance
- A strong understanding of horticultural standards and practices
- Experience operating plant and machinery safely
- Knowledge of safe chemical application (relevant certification desirable)
- A proactive and responsible approach to health and safety
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
