Quality Controller – Food Safety & Quality Assurance

Location: Preston, Lancashire | Full-Time | Monday to Friday (Shift-based across 2 sites) | £13.44 per hour + Benefits

Are you an experienced Quality Controller looking to make a real impact in food quality and safety? We’re looking for a passionate, detail-oriented Quality Assurance professional to join our growing team based across two dynamic food sites in Preston. This role is crucial to ensuring all ambient and chilled raw materials – including coffee beans, tea leaves, meats, cheeses, fruit, vegetables, grains, pulses, nuts, and more – meet the highest food safety and quality assurance standards in line with specifications and company protocols.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct Quality Control (QC) checks on ambient and chilled raw materials at goods-in, in production, and for final products.
  • Inspect food products against quality specifications, shelf life, durability dates, and packaging standards.
  • Input data into Quality Management Systems (QMS) and support product benchmarking and shelf-life assessments.
  • Liaise with suppliers and internal departments (including food safety, compliance, and trading teams) to drive continuous improvement in product quality.
  • Promote and maintain Food Hygiene, Health & Safety, and regulatory compliance at all times (BRC, FSA, DEFRA, etc.).
  • Support audits and inspection readiness across all production and warehouse areas.
  • Travel between two sites (within 6 miles) as part of a rota system shared with the QC team.
What We’re Looking For:
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a Quality Controller or Food Auditor role
  • Knowledge of food manufacturing, product quality control, and supply chain processes
  • Basic Food Safety (Level 2) and HACCP (Level 2) qualifications
  • GCSE Maths and English (Grade A–C or equivalent)
  • Strong Microsoft Office and digital record-keeping skills
  • Excellent communication and organisation skills
  • Team player with a proactive, self-starting approach
