Our client, a successful and growing office fit-out contractor, is looking to appoint an experienced Intermediate Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team. This is an excellent opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor who wants to take ownership of a major project and work within a progressive business delivering high-quality workplace environments. The successful candidate will be joining a 70-week office fit-out project based in West Bromwich, while also supporting the wider business with one day per week working from their Leeds office.

The Role

As an Intermediate Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing the commercial aspects of projects from procurement through to completion, including:

  • Managing project costs and maintaining accurate cost control
  • Preparing valuations, applications for payment and cost reports
  • Managing subcontractor accounts, payments and variations
  • Reviewing and negotiating subcontractor quotations
  • Preparing and agreeing variations and final accounts
  • Supporting procurement and tender processes
  • Working closely with the Project Manager and wider delivery team
  • Maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers
  • Identifying commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have:

  • Previous experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within the fit-out, refurbishment or commercial construction sector
  • Experience working for a contractor (main contractor or specialist fit-out contractor background preferred)
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts and commercial processes
  • Experience managing subcontract packages and variations
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects

Qualifications

Candidates should ideally hold:

  • Degree/HNC/HND qualification in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management (preferred)
  • Working towards or already achieved RICS accreditation (MRICS) would be advantageous
  • Strong IT skills including experience with Microsoft Excel and relevant commercial systems
