3D Personnel are currently looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer in Totton, Hampshire for Water / Energy projects. We are recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing in-house design team based in Southampton. This is an opportunity to join a friendly, professional and multi-disciplined team delivering detailed design solutions across energy and water projects in the UK and overseas.
Due to new project awards and a strong forward order book, we are looking for someone with experience designing within the water and/or energy sectors.
The Role
- Reporting into the Mechanical Design Manager, you will be responsible for supporting the delivery of mechanical design packages across a range of treatment and infrastructure projects.
- Working within a multi-disciplined engineering team producing design deliverables for water, wastewater and biosolids treatment plants.
- Supporting all stages of mechanical design including site surveys, optioneering, feasibility, detailed design and tender pricing.
- Producing procurement specifications for mechanical equipment.
- Completing hydraulic calculations and producing detailed construction design drawings.
- Managing third-party design outputs and providing design support to installation and commissioning teams.
- Liaising with clients, subcontractors and external design resources to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Interpreting client requirements from drawings, specifications and technical correspondence.
- Working closely with Project Managers and procurement teams to ensure correct plant and equipment selection and purchase.
- Managing internal and external design costs in collaboration with the Project Manager.
- Undertaking and checking design calculations including hydraulics and pumping systems.
- Managing the preparation of CAD drawings in line with company drawing standards.
- Completing design risk assessments to support detailed design proposals.
- Preparing detailed mechanical specifications.
- Producing P&IDs.
Requirements
- BEng or MEng in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience delivering mechanical design within the water and/or energy sector.
- Chartered membership of a relevant professional institution (advantageous but not essential).
