The Telecoms Electrician is responsible for the installation, testing, and maintenance of electrical systems on telecom sites, including DC power systems, AC supplies, and equipment energisation. The role involves working at height, ensuring compliance with BS 7671 regulations, and supporting telecom infrastructure deployment safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Electrical Installation
    • Install AC and DC electrical systems on telecom sites
    • Install containment, cabling, and distribution systems
    • Connect power to telecom equipment (cabinets, BTS, rectifiers)
    • Carry out 48V DC telecom power installations
  • Testing & Inspection
    • Perform electrical testing and inspection in line with BS 7671
    • Carry out initial verification and certification
    • Ensure all installations meet regulatory standards
    • Complete test sheets and documentation
  • DC Power Systems
    • Install and maintain telecom DC power systems (48V)
    • Work with rectifiers, batteries, and power distribution units
    • Support commissioning and energisation of systems
  • Working at Height & Access
    • Work on rooftops and telecom structures safely
    • Support rigging teams where electrical works are required
    • Follow working-at-height and rescue procedures
  • Safety & Compliance
    • Comply with BS 7671 (18th Edition Amendment 2)
    • Adhere to UK Health & Safety regulations
    • Follow RF safety guidelines (ICNIRP compliant)
    • Conduct risk assessments and method statements
    • Assist with rigging and lifting operations when required
    • Coordinate with riggers and DICI engineers
    • Ensure safe handling of tools and materials at height
  • Maintenance & Fault Finding
    • Diagnose electrical faults on telecom sites
    • Carry out corrective and preventative maintenance
    • Support upgrades and site modifications
Mandatory Training / Certifications
  • Candidates must hold (or be willing to obtain):
  • ECS Gold Card – Installation Electrician (JIB Approved)
  • BS 7671 (18th Edition – City & Guilds 2382-22 or equivalent)
  • Electrical Testing & Inspection (City & Guilds 2391-52 or equivalent)
  • DC Electrical Awareness / 48V Telecom Power Systems
  • RF Awareness & Safety (ICNIRP compliant)
  • Rooftop Safety & Access / Working at Height
  • MBNL Rigging & Lifting (Loads at Height)
  • Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW – Level 3)
  • Fire Safety Awareness
  • DBS Check (Basic / Standard)
Skills & Experience
  • Qualified electrician with ECS Gold Card
  • Strong knowledge of BS 7671 regulations
  • Experience with electrical testing and inspection
  • Experience working with DC power systems (48V telecoms)
  • Understanding of health & safety in construction/telecoms
  • Experience with rectifiers, batteries, and telecom power systems
  • Familiarity with UK telecom operators (MBNL, CTIL, etc.)
  • Ability to read electrical drawings and schematics
  • Full UK driving licence
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work at height (towers / rooftops)
  • Good physical fitness
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
