The Role: We are looking for an experienced, commercially driven, and highly motivated Regional Manager to oversee and lead our operations across Gatwick and Stansted Airports. This is a senior leadership role with overall responsibility for managing airport operations through a team of Operations Managers, Team Leaders, and shop floor staffing teams, ensuring high performance, service excellence, operational efficiency and commercial growth across the region.
This is an office-based role, however, regular travel and a strong physical presence at both Gatwick and Stansted Airports is essential. The successful candidate must be hands-on and visible across both locations, working closely with airport teams, stakeholders and clients to ensure operational excellence and consistent service delivery; some work from home opportunities may be considered.
This is a highly commercial and revenue-focused leadership role suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has a strong track record in operational leadership, stakeholder management, people development, and delivering measurable business results.
The successful candidate will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, airport partners, World Duty Free (Avolta), brand partners and senior leadership to ensure the region operates efficiently, delivers against KPIs, and continues to grow commercially.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight across Gatwick and Stansted Airports
- Maintain a regular presence across both airport locations to support teams, stakeholders, and operational delivery
- Lead and manage Operations Managers, Team Leaders, and airport-based management teams, ensuring accountability, performance and development
- Develop and implement strategic and operational plans to drive performance across the region
- Drive revenue growth, profitability and commercial performance across both airports
- Ensure airport management teams achieve operational, financial and service KPIs
- Oversee recruitment activities and support the Passing Team, ensuring performance, compliance and professional development
- Coach, mentor, and manage airport managers and Team Leaders to build capability and succession within the business
- Lead the shop floor team directly in the absence of airport-based management when required
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to improve operational efficiency and service delivery
- Attend service level agreement meetings on a monthly and quarterly basis. Attend performance review meetings with key stakeholders
- Identify and implement process improvements across the region
- Manage operational issues, escalation and emergencies as they arise
- Ensure compliance, service standards and KPI achievement across all regional airport operations
- Support workforce planning, oversee rostering where necessary and ensure efficient deployment of resources
- Provide on-call operational leadership and support when required
- Liaise closely with World Duty Free (Avolta) and other key stakeholders to maintain strong operational partnerships
- Contribute to business development initiatives and support commercial reporting to help deliver revenue and business growth targets
- Prepare and deliver regional performance, forecasting, and operational reports to senior leadership
About You:
- Proven experience in a senior regional, multi-site or operations leadership role
- Experience managing managers and leading large operational teams across multiple locations
- Experience within airport operations, travel retail, luxury retail, staffing, or fast-paced operational environments
- Strong commercial mindset with a track record of delivering revenue and operational growth
- Exceptional stakeholder management and relationship-building skills
- Strong leadership, coaching, and team development experience
- Ability to manage operational challenges and make decisions under pressure
- Strong reporting, budgeting and commercial forecasting skills
- Highly organised with the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple sites
- Willingness and flexibility to travel regularly to Gatwick and Stansted Airports as part of the role
