About the Business: An established, fast-growing logistics business based in Corby is looking for an experienced Transport Planner to join its busy traffic office. Working with a modern fleet and a diverse customer base, you’ll play a key role in ensuring goods are delivered safely, legally and on time across the UK.
The Role: As a Transport Planner, you’ll be responsible for the day-to-day planning and coordination of vehicle routes and drivers. You’ll work closely with drivers, customers and internal teams to make sure the operation runs smoothly, efficiently and in line with all legal and company standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and optimise daily transport routes and schedules for a fleet of vehicles
- Allocate work to drivers, ensuring efficient use of fleet and driver hours
- Monitor live progress of vehicles and proactively resolve any delivery issues or delays
- Act as a key point of contact for drivers, providing clear instructions and support
- Liaise with customers regarding delivery times, changes, delays and any issues
- Ensure compliance with Drivers’ Hours, Working Time Directive and all relevant legislation
- Use the Transport Management System (TMS) to update jobs, routes and status information in real time
- Debrief drivers, investigate any delivery failures and support continuous improvement
- Work closely with warehouse and operations teams to align loading and dispatch
- Assist with KPI reporting, cost control and general transport administration as needed
About You:
- Experience in a Transport Planner / Traffic Planner / Logistics Planner role (or similar) within a road transport or logistics environment
- Strong understanding of UK road transport operations, route planning and scheduling
- Working knowledge of Drivers’ Hours regulations and the Working Time Directive
- Confident using Transport Management Systems and MS Office (Excel, Outlook etc.)
- Excellent communication skills – able to build rapport with drivers and customers
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure
- Highly organised, with good attention to detail and a focus on accuracy
- Flexible, team-oriented approach with a “get it done” attitude
Desirable:
- Experience planning multi-drop routes and/or trunking operations
- Knowledge of pallet network or general haulage operations
- Geographical knowledge of the UK road network
- CPC holder (or working towards) would be an advantage but not essential
Hours & Package:
- Salary: £33,000 – £35,000 per annum, depending on experience
- Full-time, permanent role
