The role
We’re recruiting for a Purchasing, Buying and Scheduling Manager to take ownership of purchasing activity, inventory control, and supplier scheduling within a manufacturing environment. This role is key to keeping production flowing — ensuring stock accuracy, strong supplier performance, and on-time delivery of materials and components.
Key responsibilities
- Place routine purchase orders where demand is generated from: 95% Kanban system, 5% MRP scheduling (long lead-time items)
- Maintain the Kanban system, settings and stock levels
- Full responsibility for inventory control and inventory record maintenance
- Set up stock codes and maintain re-order levels
- Produce month-end stock reporting
- Manage Stores personnel and take ownership of Stores standards and environment
- Raise H&S concerns and support risk assessments / COSHH activity with Production
- Issue weekly rollover schedules to suppliers for JIT delivery (control panels, chassis fabrications, GRP parts)
- Chase shortages and overdue orders; generate weekly shortage reporting via MRP and manage shortage visibility on site
- Support sourcing of alternatives/new products with the technical team where supply issues occur
- Own procedures for year-end stock take
- Implement and manage cyclic counting to maintain high stock accuracy
What we’re looking for
- Proven experience in a similar role within a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of stock control / inventory accuracy / purchasing discipline
- Comfortable using Kanban systems and exposure to MRP (especially for long lead items)
- Confident supplier management skills (chasing, expediting, resolving shortages)
- Strong admin skills and attention to detail (Excel competence helpful)
- Able to lead/coordinate Stores activity and maintain standards
