Are you an organised, calm-under-pressure Transport Planner who’s happy working nights and enjoys keeping wheels turning and deliveries on time? We’re recruiting for a Night Shift Transport Planner / Transport Clerk to join a busy logistics operation based in Redditch. As a Transport Planner, you’ll be part of a well-established distribution site, working with a mixed fleet and a team of experienced drivers to make sure customer deliveries run smoothly and efficiently through the night.
The role
- Plan and allocate nightly routes and loads for a fleet of HGVs and vans.
- Brief and debrief drivers at the start and end of their shifts, ensuring they have all required information and paperwork.
- Monitor vehicles throughout the night, dealing with delays, route changes and customer updates as they arise.
- Check and input data into the transport management system (TMS), keeping records accurate and up to date.
- Help ensure compliance with WTD, drivers’ hours and tachograph regulations.
- Liaise with customers and internal teams regarding delivery times, special requirements and any service issues.
- Handle general transport administration – PODs, manifests, booking times, delivery notes and reports.
You’ll be working in a fast-paced environment where no two nights are the same, and where a strong Transport Planner really makes a difference.
About you
- Experience working in a transport office – e.g. as a Transport Planner, Transport Administrator, Operations Clerk or similar.
- A good understanding of UK road transport, including routes, mileage and basic compliance.
- Confident communication skills – you’ll be talking to drivers, customers and colleagues throughout the night.
- Strong organisation and time-management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks at once.
- Comfortable working with IT systems (TMS / routing software / Excel).
- A proactive, problem-solving mindset – you stay calm when plans change and can think on your feet.
- Willingness and ability to work a permanent night shift (22:00 – 06:30, 40 hours per week).
Experience within a 3PL or distribution environment would be an advantage, but similar Transport Planner or transport office experience will absolutely be considered.
