Job Overview

  • Role: Sanding Operative
  • Department: Production / Manufacturing / Workshop
  • Hours: 7am - 4pm Monday to Thursday and 7am - 1pm on Friday
  • Pay: £12.71 per hour

Repetitive role, sanding down all day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Surface Preparation: Smooth and level surfaces by removing rough spots, old finishes, rust, or excess material.
  • Machine & Tool Operation: Safely operate hand sanders, orbital sanders, belt sanders, or automated sanding equipment.
  • Grit Selection: Choose the correct sandpaper grades or abrasive belts for each stage of the smoothing process.
  • Quality Inspection: Check finished work for scratches, dents, or flaws to ensure it is ready for painting, varnishing, or assembly.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Clean, maintain, and change worn abrasive belts or filters on machinery.
  • Housekeeping & Safety: Keep the workspace tidy, empty dust extraction units, and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience: Previous hands-on experience in a manufacturing, woodworking, or industrial finishing environment is essential.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long shifts and lift moderate to heavy materials.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong focus on surface quality and consistency.
  • Safety Awareness: Commitment to following health and safety protocols and proper PPE usage.
