Finstech Recruitment & IT Consultancy are working with a forward thinking public sector organisation with a strong commitment to the community, local economy, and long term sustainability. As part of an ambitious programme of change, they are seeking an experienced Head of Finance, specialising in financial planning & reporting, to provide strategic financial leadership and help shape the organisation's future.
This is a senior leadership role, reporting to the Assistant Director of Finance and working closely with the Director of Resources. The successful candidate will lead the financial planning and reporting function, ensuring robust, compliant and strategic financial management across the organisation, including through a period of Local Government Reorganisation.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the development and delivery of the Medium Term Financial Plan (MTFP) and annual budget setting process
- Act as a principal financial adviser to senior leadership, members, and committees
- Oversee budget monitoring and financial reporting to support effective decision-making
- Line manage a Finance Manager and provide strategic direction to the Financial Planning and Reporting team
- Drive improvements in financial systems, processes, and reporting
- Identify opportunities for financial innovation, income generation, and cost efficiencies
You will be a qualified finance professional (CIPFA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with:
- Strong leadership and people management experience
- A proven track record of delivering high-quality financial planning and reporting in a complex organisation
- Excellent communication and influencing skills
- A proactive, collaborative approach to problem-solving
- The ability to adapt quickly in a changing environment
- Experience in local government or a similar public sector environment is highly desirable.
