Our client has grown to become one of the largest family-owned manufacturers of construction products in the UK and Ireland. The group encompasses leading brands across the steel, light & environmental and timber sectors and they are renowned for pioneering, innovating, and a dedicated attitude of ‘going through the wall' for their customers. The group continues to grow at pace from their Derbyshire base, and they are now looking for an experienced and commercially astute Commercial Manager to lead the estimating and commercial function for their specialist façade product range. This is a key position within a growing business, responsible for securing profitable contracts, developing commercial strategies, and supporting the continued expansion of a newly established brand within the wider group of companies.
Our clients offering covers the design, drawing, manufacture, and delivery of façade systems. They primarily operate on a product supply-only basis, although experience with both supply-only and supply-and-fit contracts is desirable. The successful candidate will bring extensive industry experience, strong commercial awareness, and the ability to hit the ground running. They will bring with them strong and established industry relationships.
They will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive quotations, benchmarking pricing within the market, negotiating commercial terms, and converting opportunities into secured contracts.
Commercial Manager - Responsibilities
- Lead the estimating and commercial activities across the façade product portfolio, including design, drawing, manufacture and delivery of product.
- Prepare accurate and competitive quotations for façade projects, including Outer leaf façade systems and Brick-faced façade solutions.
- Define and manage commercial terms and pricing structures for each project meeting both client needs and financial feasibility.
- Benchmark pricing against market trends and competitor offerings to maintain commercial competitiveness.
- Review tender documentation, specifications, drawings, and contract requirements.
- Assess project risks and opportunities and provide commercially sound recommendations.
- Negotiate commercial terms and secure profitable contracts.
- Manage contract variations, change orders, and commercial negotiations throughout project lifecycles.
- Determine procurement responsibilities, including management of brick supply arrangements.
- Work closely with design, engineering, manufacturing, and operational teams to ensure accurate project costing and delivery.
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing estimating and commercial team.
Commercial Manager – Required Skills
- Extensive experience in a commercial, estimating, quantity surveying, or contracts management role within the construction, façade, civils, manufacturing, or engineering sectors.
- Strong knowledge of façade systems, masonry support, or related building envelope products.
- Proven experience preparing quotations for design, manufacture, and supply projects.
- Demonstrable track record of winning commercial contracts and delivering profitable outcomes.
- Strong understanding of commercial contracts and terms, variations and change management & Supply-only and supply-and-fit arrangements.
- Excellent commercial, financial, and analytical skills.
- Experience benchmarking pricing and developing competitive commercial strategies.
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Previous or current line management experience with the ability to develop and lead teams.
- Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related Engineering Discipline.
