Senior Highways Engineer in Blackburn

They're looking for an experienced Senior Highways Engineer with a strong technical background, a passion for engineering and the ambition to take ownership of projects while helping develop the next generation of engineers. This is a hands-on role where you'll be involved from inception through to completion, working alongside project managers, senior engineers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality solutions for their clients. This is a hybrid working role, with three days per week expected in the office.

What you'll be doing:

• Managing your project tasks within agreed budgets, timescales and quality standards.
• Developing highways and civil engineering schemes from initial concept through to completion.
• Providing technical guidance, direction and support to assistant and junior engineers.
• Checking and approving technical outputs produced by junior team members.
• Overseeing all possible design elements of project work, including AutoCAD and Civil 3D deliverables.
• Supporting the preparation of estimates and proposals for new work.
• Coordinating project delivery where multiple design teams or service areas are involved.
• Taking ownership of quality, identifying issues and putting effective solutions in place.
• Ensuring compliance with our Quality Management System (QMS).
• Maintaining strong commercial awareness and ensuring projects are delivered efficiently.
• Continuing to develop your own skills and expertise through your personal Training Plan.

What you'll bring:

• At least 5 years' relevant professional experience in highways or civil engineering.
• A degree, Master's, HNC or equivalent relevant qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong technical knowledge of highways engineering and DMRB standards.
• Expert level CAD skills.
• Competent and experienced user of Civil 3D.
• Experience working within a professional engineering environment.
• Good commercial and business awareness.
• Experience managing tasks, priorities and deadlines.
• Working towards professional membership of IHE, ICE or CIHT, with Chartered status desirable or a clear commitment to working towards it.
