Job Description

Our client is one of the leading museum groups in Europe. With one of the largest and most diverse collections in the world, their Estates department are responsible for the maintenance upgrading and control of the facilities which house a substantial part of Scotland’s cultural, historic and national heritage.Β  As their Electronic Systems Officer you will be responsible for the operational running of systems such as fire detection, access security control, CCTV, security intruder systems and programmable lighting systems; this for both routine and reactive maintenance as well as lifecycle upgrades and replacements.

As Electronics Systems Officer you will be joining a small flexible team within Estates department and will be required to work with colleagues, from across the Museum, as well as contractors over all Estate locations. The role involves working both front and back of house to ensure that the visitor experience is always maximised with all systems fully operational. You will be responsible for two sites in Edinburgh, plus additional sites in East Kilbride, and Berwick. This role would be ideal for somebody from an electrical bias, systems background, looking for an off the tools coordination/leadership role.Β 

Electronics Systems Officer – Responsibilities

– To manage and supervise the service provider contractor in their duties and operation of the electronic systems controlling Fire, Security, CCTV and Access control for all sites

– To assist the Building Services & Energy Manager and Head of Estates by developing proposals, specifications and scope of works documents and tenders for Fire, Security, CCTV and Access control for implementation on sites, and for upgrading existing control systems

– Manage the installation of new systems through the service provider and specialist contractors

– To assess and prioritise reported repairs and maintenance of systems, and to use technical knowledge to identify causes of faults and effectively manage service provider contractors

– Provide ongoing training, operational advice and development in the appropriate use of systems for required staff

– To operate and manage the system of hot work/permit to work throughout the Chambers Street site to ensure safe working and minimise contractor risk

– Management of electronic drawing records, working with the service provider towards the continued updating of the asset management register

– Programme and operate gallery lighting to meet changing needs, and to minimise energy As Required

Electronic Systems Officer – Required Skills

– Relevant HND level qualification, Electronics/Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience

– Knowledge and experience of electronic systems management

– Good knowledge of Health and Safety requirements and legislation

– Knowledge and experience of Fire, Security, CCTV, Access and other electronic systems operations

– Able to apply technical knowledge to manage operation and maintenance

– Experience with contracts, tenders and specifications for procurement documentation

– Previous Electronic drawing & systems service experience

– Proven relevant experience in Fire,

– Experience of security, CCTV & Access computer-based software programmes

– Experience managing contractors and minor works projects

You'll ideally have a clean UK driving license and will be happy to use your own vehicle for occasisonal travel claimable at 45p per mile.Β  The company are also happy for this person to work twice per week from home.Β
