We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Ambulance Care Assistant to join our healthcare team. The role involves transporting patients to and from hospitals, day centres, and homes for routine appointments and between NHS Trusts when required. You will support patients during their journey, address any urgency, and provide a safe and caring environment.

Responsibilities

  • Transport patients on the non-emergency side of the ambulance service.
  • Ensure patients are safely carried, positioned and assisted, including standing from wheelchairs and moving up/down stairs.
  • Operate the ambulance, including driving, and maintain safe operation during all journeys.
  • Provide reassurance, communicate effectively with anxious or confused patients, and preserve dignity and independence.
  • Keep the ambulance clean, disinfected and restocked with supplies.
  • Complete Patient Report Forms, transfer forms and record all incidents and accidents accurately.

Person Specification

  • Minimum Level 2 Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) or Level 3 First Response and Emergency Care (FREC3).
  • Experience in a healthcare or care setting.
  • 21 years of age or older.
  • Full UK driving licence held for at least 2 years, no more than 3 penalty points (exceptionally up to 6 points may be considered).
  • Capable of driving to various locations as required by the role.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families and healthcare teams.
  • Good written and communication skills for clear and accurate documentation.
  • Ability to work in high-pressure environments while maintaining composure and professionalism.
  • Capacity for heavy lifting and patient handling using proper techniques.
  • Sympathetic, respectful and caring attitude towards patients, staff and colleagues.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in response to service needs.
  • Team player with initiative and willingness to undertake further training as required.
