350.org is looking for a Systems Management Specialist who supports infrastructure innovation, evaluation, and integration of development of tools and platforms that empower our team and partners.

About 350.org

350's mission is to keep carbon in our atmosphere to a safe level, below 350 parts per million. We do this by mobilizing ordinary people to campaign for universal access to clean energy and an end to fossil fuels. Our campaigns are rooted in local organizing, so that while achieving measurable reductions in fossil fuel emissions, we also build the power and potential of the climate movement for yet more impact to come.

The Systems Management Specialist is responsible for maintaining and evolving the organization's technical infrastructure to support global campaigns and operations. This includes managing and optimizing our WordPress platforms and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) infrastructure to ensure systems are reliable, sustainable, and cost-effective.

About Systems Management Specialist

Working closely with the Product Manager (Web and Platforms) and cross-functional teams, the Systems Management Specialist supports infrastructure innovation, evaluates and integrates emerging technologies, and supports the development of tools and platforms that empower organizers, partners, and staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environments, including cost monitoring, resource optimization, and compliance with security best practices.
  • Manage and optimize WordPress platforms.
  • Manage a range of hosted tools such as Metabase.
  • Ensure that infrastructure aligns with industry standards and best practices for performance and scalability.
  • Implement and enforce robust security practices across all systems and platforms, including managing access controls, monitoring for vulnerabilities, and ensuring compliance with data protection and privacy regulations.
  • Establish and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity.
  • Monitor system performance and proactively address reliability or sustainability risks.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to non-technical teams to improve tool adoption and efficient use of systems.
  • Stay current with industry trends, cloud services, and emerging web technologies, advising on when to adopt or retire tools.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 3 years' experience in infrastructure management.
  • At least 3 years' experience in cloud-based infrastructure, including GCP.
  • Experience managing and optimizing WordPress platforms, including performance tuning and security best practices.
  • Proven expertise in securing infrastructure and applications, including access control, vulnerability management, and compliance with data protection standards.
  • Proven ability to monitor and optimize cloud infrastructure costs while maintaining performance and scalability.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate technical requirements into actionable strategies for non-technical colleagues.
  • Effective communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in infrastructure tools and technologies such as Docker, Terraform, and Ansible.
  • Experience of using CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins).
  • Experience working in remote-first organizations or mission-driven nonprofits.
  • Prior experience in managing systems for global, distributed, or multilingual teams.
  • Experience with data visualisation platforms such as Metabase.
  • Familiarity with AI tools and emerging technologies to enhance system efficiency and automation.

Work Environment

This role is home-based, although the role-holder is expected to participate in external meetings, events, and campaign activities. Ability to maintain a healthy work/life balance in fast-paced, high-pressure working environments.

Employment Status

Full-time (36 hours per week), permanent role.

Salary

This position is at 350's salary grade level 2.3 with a set, non-negotiable salary. Country-specific salaries for this level can be found here.
