Senior Specialist, Portfolio Strategy provides analytical, operational, and administrative support to the Portfolio Strategy team. The team develops financial targets, publishes policies, and creates frameworks to drive growth in the Research Publishing business.
Responsibilities
- Provide support for strategic initiatives, coordinating input, tracking actions, scheduling follow‑ups, and maintaining project materials and timelines.
- Collect and consolidate information from stakeholders to support development and delivery of portfolio strategies and strategic growth plans.
- Support preparation of portfolio analyses, targets, models, and roadmaps by gathering, organising, and maintaining data across journals, subject areas, and business models.
- Support workflows and processes to ensure consistent implementation of plans, policies, and frameworks across the portfolio.
- Maintain accurate documentation, reporting files, and team resources to support planning, communication, and continuity.
Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree or above.
- Some experience in academic publishing.
- Strategic thinking ability – capable of macro and micro views, translating big picture into portfolio impact.
- Experience coordinating projects or workstreams with multiple contributors and deadlines.
- Ability to organise complex information into clear, structured outputs.
- Strong analytical skills, including interpreting data, identifying trends, and drawing conclusions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; confident with standard business tools.
- Experience using AI tools (Copilot, Claude) to increase efficiencies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to work effectively with stakeholders across functions and seniority levels.
- Good judgement and attention to detail, managing multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of scholarly communications landscape, open access models, society publishing, or journal portfolio management.
- Experience in a matrixed, international, or cross‑functional organisation.
