Hangar 13 is looking for an experienced Principal Mission Designer to join the team in Brighton and help to form the core of a new design group.
As far as our games are concerned, Missions are stories the player can experience that combine incredible level design, smart use of mechanics and interesting characters to surprise and delight.
- What You’ll Be Doing
- You will own highly complex, high-impact story missions, driving them from early concept through to final polish and release.
- You will design memorable mission locations, pitch and develop captivating narrative scenarios, and script complex logic using Blueprint and our suite of internal tools.
- You will cooperate with a multidisciplinary team of developers to ensure all aspects of the in-game experience fit the tone and creative vision of the project.
- You will work closely with the Mission Design Lead and other stakeholders to help define, champion, document and maintain efficient workflows, tools and best practices to boost the team’s efficiency.
- You will mentor, onboard, and elevate senior and mid-level designers, fostering a culture of continuous learning, rigorous feedback, and top-tier design principles.
- What We’re Looking For
- Exceptional, proven design skills both conceptually (on paper/documentation) and technically (in-engine).
- Deep expertise in creating complex 3D layouts that intuitively guide the player, telegraph affordances, ensure correct pacing, and emotional engagement.
- Expert-level scripting capabilities in Blueprint (or similar systems) and the ability to diagnose and fix complex technical issues.
- Outstanding collaboration and communication skills, with a track record of successfully aligning multi-disciplinary teams across multiple global locations.
- Released multiple high-profile AAA titles in a Senior or Principal Level/Mission Design capacity.
- Deep, production-proven experience with Unreal Engine.

- A deep understanding of how to craft compelling narratives while maintaining tonal consistency within an established project vision.
- Strong documentation skills, proficiency with Wiki systems or Confluence is a plus
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, in Game Design or other related discipline
