In a nutshell… Our client is a well-established UK organisation operating within a technical and operational environment, with a strong focus on safety, compliance, and continuous improvement. With a commitment to high standards and best practice, the business is now seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to lead its Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) strategy. This is a pivotal role where you will act as the organisation's appointed Health & Safety professional, ensuring full compliance with UK legislation and industry standards while driving a positive, proactive safety culture across the business. The role is both office and field based and will involve travel for site visits, audits, and training delivery.

What’s involved for the Health & Safety Manager…

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve the Health & Safety Management System in line with legal, regulatory, and best-practice requirements.
  • Lead inspection, audit, and assurance programmes to monitor and enhance HSE performance.
  • Measure, analyse, and report on HSE performance, benchmarking against industry standards.
  • Review, develop, and maintain safe systems of work, ensuring policies and procedures remain practical and risk-focused.
  • Champion a safety-first culture and clearly communicate HSE expectations across the organisation.
  • Provide frameworks, tools, and guidance to support compliance with HSE legislation and industry guidance.
  • Lead employee consultation groups and work closely with Safety Representatives.
  • Identify HSE competence requirements and advise on training and development actions.
  • Deliver and support HSE training, toolbox talks, inductions, and incident investigations.
  • Review risk assessments and method statements, providing expert advice where required.
  • Manage HSE eLearning platforms and compliance tracking systems.
  • Ensure statutory reporting requirements are met, including external incident reporting where required.
  • Maintain HSE accreditations and certifications.
  • Plan and manage internal, external, corporate, insurance, and compliance audits.
  • Act as the main point of contact for regulatory bodies and local authorities.
  • Support HSE-related claims, investigations, and assurance visits for key contracts.
  • Support contractor scheme applications, renewals, and external submissions.
  • Collaborate across departments to maintain compliance and minimise operational risk.

What you’ll need…

  • H&S Management experience.
  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, or a related discipline.
  • IOSH Level 6 Diploma in OSH Leadership or NEBOSH Diploma.
  • Proven Health & Safety experience within manufacturing, engineering, or a similar environment.
  • Strong knowledge of UK H&S legislation and regulatory frameworks.
  • Ability to design and deliver a business-aligned HSE strategy.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to identify hazards and implement effective controls.
  • Full UK driving licence.
