Are you an experienced UI Engineer who loves multiplayer gaming and has a drive to craft innovative, high-quality user experiences in Unreal Engine 5?
As a Senior UI Engineer on RuneScape: Dragonwilds, our new open world survival crafting gamecurrently in early access and developed in UE5, you will play a key role in defining and implementing intuitive and performant user interface systems for this new exciting game in the RuneScape Franchise.
You will become the go-to person for all things UI, designing and owning complex UI features and working closely with designers, artists, and programmers to create a seamless user experience.
This is an opportunity to truly take ownership of the UI domain and leave your mark on the visual and functional language of our game in which you’ll pair strong C++ skills with a deep understanding of UX, thriving in a collaborative, cross-discipline environment where innovation, quality, and clarity drive everything we do.
What you’ll be doing:
- Create, maintain, and own a wide variety of UI features, ensuring they are performant, scalable, and user-focused.
- Partner with designers and artists in strike teams to deliver cohesive and polished features.
- Select the best technical solutions, architectures, and pipelines for UI development tasks.
- Test, debug, profile, and optimise UI systems to ensure a high-quality experience.
- Identify risks and opportunities throughout development, proactively proposing effective solutions.
- Mentor peers and support recruitment for the engineering team.
- Champion best practices in UI engineering, contributing to the team’s continuous improvement.
What we’re looking for:
- Proven expertise in designing and implementing complex UI features for multiplayer games.
- Strong understanding of UX principles and a passion for crafting player-friendly interfaces.
- Deep knowledge of C++ and experience with a proven ability to apply this experience with other programming languages (c#, python, etc).
- Demonstrable experience with UE4 or UE5 (including UMG, Slate, and Common UI).
- Skilled at profiling and optimising code for performance.
- Ability to design complex systems using appropriate patterns, solving architectural and system-level problems.
- Familiarity with source code repository usage (perforce).
- Experience mentoring other engineers and promoting a culture of learning and sharing.
- Excellent communicator who thrives in collaborative environments with a distributed workforce.
