We are seeking an experienced Head of Estates to lead the delivery of engineering and estates services across the Kent and Canterbury, Dover Buckland, and Royal Victoria hospital sites. This pivotal role ensures the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of all building services, critical systems, and infrastructure, supporting clinical services through resilient estate management.
As the technical expert, you will provide strategic leadership to a multidisciplinary team, manage capital projects and lifecycle planning, maintain statutory and regulatory compliance, oversee budgets and procurement, and deliver high-performance estates operations. You will also produce regular reports, manage risks, and contribute to sustainability and innovation initiatives across the estate. You will participate in the on-call rota, attending site outside normal hours as needed.
Key Responsibilities- Lead, manage, and develop a team delivering estate and technical services across multiple hospital sites.
- Ensure compliance with statutory, mandatory, and HTM regulations, providing assurance to Directors and the Board.
- Oversee maintenance, repairs, projects, and lifecycle planning for all estate assets.
- Manage KPIs, SLAs, budgets, reporting, procurement, and helpdesk operations.
- Provide expert technical advice and implement solutions for clinical and operational requirements.
- Ensure Health & Safety compliance, effective CAFM and BMS systems operation, and adherence to all regulatory guidance including HTMs, HBNs, and building regulations.
- Drive continuous improvement, operational efficiency, and a culture of excellent customer service within the department.
- Participate in the on-call rota to support incidents, emergency planning, and contingency management.
- Proven experience in a mechanical and electrical environment, preferably within healthcare, with at least 5 years in a management role.
- Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, plus specialist knowledge through postgraduate or specialist courses.
- Membership of a recognised Building Services institute.
- Authorised to operate and manage electrical systems, medical gases, water systems, ventilation, boilers, and power generation.
- Strong knowledge of HTMs, HBNs, healthcare guidance, building regulations, and project management, including asbestos, water management, and COSHH compliance.
- Proven ability to manage budgets, staff performance, and complex technical projects.
- Excellent communication, numeracy, and computer skills (CAD, BMS, CAFM, and reporting systems).
- Full UK driving licence.
- Strong problem-solving skills with mechanical and electrical aptitude.
- Ability to work closely with clients, contractors, and staff in a complex environment.
