About the Role: We are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Financial Accountant to join the Finance Team. This role sits within our finance structure, contributing to wider company finance tasks. This role can be based out of our Sywell or Lasham site, the Financial Accountant will play a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and contributing to the overall financial health of the company.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, and bank reconciliations.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial transactions, recording entries in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company policies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide accurate and timely financial information for project costing, including internal and external reporting as required.
  • Prepare and analyse financial statements, budget reports, and other financial documents to provide insights for management decision-making or compliance-oriented reporting.
  • Assist the financial controller and broader team in the month-end and year-end close processes, including but not limited to reconciliations and journal entries.
  • Monitor and analyse expenses, identifying trends and variances, and recommend corrective actions to management.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial forecasts, budgets, and financial analysis to support strategic planning.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining internal controls to ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
  • Participate in audits and provide necessary documentation to external auditors.
  • Support internal stakeholders, to develop their understanding of financial data and aid with query resolution.
  • Stay current with changes in accounting regulations and industry best practices to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Assist in process improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of financial operations.
  • Perform ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting as required by management.
  • Support training requirements within the team.
  • Continuously review, challenge, and suggest improvements to systems and processes.
  • Support the success of the business, by assisting with other requirements, when needed.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Demonstrable experience in accounting or finance roles, preferably within the aerospace, engineering, or manufacturing sectors.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; AAT, ACCA or ACA certification is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and tools; experience of Sage 50 is desirable.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry, analysis, and financial reporting.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and provide insights.
  • Proficiency in all aspects of Microsoft Office, particularly advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with various stakeholders and explain financial concepts to non-financial team members.
  • Experience of working with DefCARs Reporting is highly desirable but not essential.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of aerospace industry dynamics and project accounting is advantageous.
  • Adaptable and open to learning new technologies and processes.
