About the role:
Due to an internal promotion, we’re hiring an Operations Controller. Reporting to the Operations Shift Supervisor (OSS), the Duty Operations Controller (DOC) is tasked with facilitating the effective delivery of the Company’s flying programme, including Search and Rescue (SAR), VIP charter and bespoke trial support aircraft, whilst considering the safety, legal and commercial implications of your actions.
As an Operations Controller, the incumbent will need to make fast, responsive, balanced, and responsible decisions, taking into account the conflicting needs and balancing operational requirements with revenue protection and industrial/regulatory constraints.
The role’s key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Maintain an accurate flight watch of all company aircraft.
- Co-ordinate the expeditious dispatch of SAR, VIP, and trial support aircraft to minimise delays and client inconvenience.
- Flight planning – filing flight plans, coordinating with civil and military ATC where required.
- Manage ATC slots using the CFMU portal.
- Weather and NOTAM monitoring.
- Arrange handling, airport slots, fuel, PPR and necessary permits.
- Arrange crew HOTAC and transport as required.
- Resource allocation and supervision of ramp staff and GSE.
- Monitor crew FTL’s, ensure they are operating within limitations.
- In case of an emergency, initiate the company’s Emergency Response Plan (ERP).
- Close liaison with all departments within the Company, our external customers, and 3rd party suppliers.
- Committed to the highest standards of Flight and Ramp Safety, client care and commercial awareness.
- Ensure that any policy breaches are reported to the Operations Shift Supervisor and Operations Manager swiftly.
- Coordinate the recovery of aircraft breakdowns (AOG) and other operational limitations that affect the aircraft flying schedule.
- Maintain strong working relationships with our home base airports to ensure local restrictions do not jeopardise the flying program.
- Any other duties that are reasonably requested by management within the capability of the incumbent.
The following skills, knowledge and experience are essential:
- Strong academic achievement, typically to GCSE standard or equivalent in science-based disciplines.
- At least one year’s experience in an operations department.
- Knowledge of civilian aircrew/commercial aviation rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of crew planning and rostering systems.
- Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the issues within crew rostering, and deal with the sensitive balance of managing and controlling the resources of a group of staff whose performance is determined by Managers outside of their own department.
- Needs to be articulate and can build credible trusting relationships both within and outside of their own department.
- Applicants must be able to demonstrate the Right to Work in the UK and hold a valid UK Driving Licence.
- Applicants must also be able to successfully pass a company-sponsored Counter Terrorism Check (CTC) and/or Security Check (SC) Clearance.
