272BIO Ltd is an antibody discovery and development company which focuses on developing innovative therapeutics for the treatment of veterinary disease areas, with a particular focus on single-domain antibodies. 272BIO has established laboratory facilities based at the Thames Valley Science Park near Reading. 272BIO is recruiting a scientific leader for its existing dynamic team, a role suitable for an experienced scientist with in-depth expertise across in vitro assay development, molecular pharmacology and cell-biology.

This is a hugely exciting opportunity for a developing Industry senior/principal scientist. 272BIO are seeking a curiosity-driven, creative candidate, who will help shape the future of 272BIO as a critical part of our teams. The successful candidate will be highly skilled, keen, enthusiastic with a strong work ethic able to motivate and lead a team. We would favour a candidate with cell and molecular biology skills, along with expertise in vitro pharmacology assay design, optimisation, validation and development capabilities. Veterinary Medicine experience would be an advantage. The ideal candidate will lead and contribute to the discovery and development of novel therapeutic antibodies and biologics targeting key disease pathways. The candidate will have at least 10 years Post Doc experience with a demonstrable track-record of leadership and technical expertise, preferably in the pharma industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • 272BIO is a fast-growing antibody discovery and development company seeking a dynamic in vitro pharmacologist as a leader within the Discovery group at 272BIO.
  • The role would suit an entrepreneurial individual energised by science with a passion and natural curiosity to find innovative solutions to problems, eager to collaborate with fellow scientists across the organisation.
  • The candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Pharmacology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field, with significant post-doctoral experience.
  • Their current role will be in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical company, or have previous experience of working in or with industry.
  • As a highly skilled in vitro pharmacologist, the successful candidate should have an excellent understanding of pharmacology principles and mechanism-of-action studies.
  • The candidate will have extensive hands-on experience in the development and execution of a wide range of drug screening formats including those in high-throughput, against a variety of target classes.
  • They will take a lead role in defining the early screening strategy and execution to ensure identification of hits and lead candidates with desired in vitro potency, efficacy and selectivity.
  • The candidate should be able to evaluate and implement new bioassay techniques and protocols and recommend the acquisition and application of instrumentation and technologies.
  • Experience of developing and executing PK and ADA assays is preferred.
  • The candidate should have experience of leading and developing lab scientists at all skill levels.
  • The ability to foster active collaboration within and between all lines and teams is essential.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Ph.D. in Pharmacology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, or equivalent with a minimum of 10 years of industry experience in in vitro pharmacology in drug discovery, preferably with significant antibody experience.
  • Proven track record of scientific leadership and expertise in pharmacology, antibody development, and preclinical drug discovery.
  • Strong background in immunology, cell biology, and molecular biology techniques relevant to antibody discovery and characterization.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor scientific teams, drive collaborative research efforts, and communicate effectively across interdisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced research environment.
  • Proficiency in data analysis software, statistical methods, and bioinformatics tools for data interpretation and visualization.
  • Ability to work as an expert cross-functionally working with colleagues in discovery, early development, clinical and manufacturing.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels within the organisation and act as an advocate for 272BIO with external collaborators and partners.
  • Highly competent across cell-biology, in vitro pharmacology and in vitro assay disciplines with specific expertise in analytical software tools, data analysis and interpretation.
