Role Overview

Our client is currently seeking an experienced Yard Shunter / Yard Operative to work on a busy logistics site. This is a key operational role focused on the safe and efficient movement of trailers and equipment within the yard, ensuring smooth warehouse and transport operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct incoming vehicles and equipment to the correct loading and parking bays
  • Liaise with warehouse and planning teams to maintain a smooth trailer flow
  • Monitor equipment availability and report shortages that may impact loading
  • Ensure all trailers are legally compliant
  • Position trailers on and off bays as required
  • Maintain a safe, organised, and efficient yard environment
  • Follow correct VOR (Vehicle Off Road) procedures
  • Assist with yard and trailer-related queries
  • Comply with all Health & Safety policies and site procedures
  • Carry out additional operational duties as required

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Follow safe working practices at all times
  • Attend Health & Safety briefings as required
  • Take responsibility for your own safety and that of others in line with:
  • Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant systems, processes, and legislation
  • Support internal quality and compliance audits where necessary
  • Essential Requirements

    • C+E Licence or recognised Yard Shunting Qualification
    • Calm under pressure with a professional, safety‑focused approach
    • Flexible and adaptable to changing operational needs
    • Digital Tachograph Card
    • Driver CPC
    • No more than 6 penalty points for minor offences
    • Knowledge of Drivers’ Hours and the Working Time Directive
    • Drawbar experience
    • Good geographical knowledge
