Located in a safe, secure facility, St Mary’s Kenmure cares for young people referred by Courts and Children’s Hearings. The centre is divided into house units, each providing a nurturing and structured home for residents.

Role Purpose: Residential Child Care Worker
In this role, you’ll be at the heart of safeguarding and supporting young people within a residential/secure setting. You’ll create a safe, engaging environment that respects individuality, promotes rights, and upholds equality and confidentiality. Your work will follow legislative and organisational standards while contributing to a culture of trust, learning, and opportunity. In addition, you may take on specific responsibilities that help the service run smoothly and effectively.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
* Promote the wellbeing, safety, and protection of young people.
* Contribute to the assessment of needs and risks, developing and implementing care plans.
* Support young people in building life skills, independence, and positive relationships.
* Promote and facilitate educational, recreational, and vocational opportunities.
* Manage and respond to challenging behaviour in a calm and constructive manner.
* Maintain accurate records and provide written reports as required.
* Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Ensure health, safety, and safeguarding standards are met at all times.
Essential Requirements:
* Sound knowledge of the role and responsibilities of a Residential Child Care Worker
* Understanding of Employer and Employee Code of Conduct (SSSC)
* Experience working in social care (preferably in residential childcare or secure care)
* Possess an HNC in Social Care and SVQ Level 3 in Care (Children and Young People)
* Ability to manage time effectively and organise workload
* Mental resilience and patience to handle challenging situations
Desirable:
* Full UK driving licence
* Previous experience in residential or secure childcare
* Proven experience in working with children and young people
Personal Qualities:
* Self-motivated with a positive, “can-do” attitude
* Approachable, flexible, and adaptable
* Able to work independently with minimal supervision
