We are seeking an experienced and motivated Locum Children & Families Social Worker to join a dynamic team within Midlothian. This is an excellent opportunity for a practitioner who is passionate about safeguarding children, supporting families, and delivering high‑quality statutory social work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied Children & Families caseload in line with service priorities
  • Undertake assessments using GIRFEC and SHANARRI wellbeing indicators
  • Complete child protection investigations, risk assessments, and safety planning
  • Prepare and present reports for case conferences, children’s hearings, and court when required
  • Work collaboratively with schools, health professionals, police, and third‑sector partners
  • Develop child‑centred plans that promote safety, stability, and positive outcomes
  • Maintain accurate case notes and comply with statutory duties under Scottish legislation

Requirements

  • Degree / Diploma in Social Work
  • SSSC registration
  • Experience in statutory Children & Families practice (e.g., CP, LAC, Duty, Assessment)
  • Strong analytical, report‑writing, and risk‑management skills
  • Confident working under pressure and managing complex caseloads
  • PVG membership (or willingness to apply)
