21HSC are recruiting for a Locum Support Worker to provide short-term cover for the Asylum/Refugee Team for around 3 months. This is a varied and rewarding role focused on supporting individuals and families to integrate into the local community and access essential services. You will play a key role in helping people navigate systems, attend appointments, and build independence within Midlothian and surrounding areas. Working both independently and alongside wider services, you will provide practical, person-centred support and advocacy to ensure individuals feel informed, empowered, and connected.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Support individuals and families with integration-related tasks within the community.
  • Assist clients with registering with GP services and accessing healthcare.
  • Accompany individuals to appointments where required.
  • Provide general orientation and guidance within Midlothian and Edinburgh.
  • Signpost clients to relevant local services and community resources.
  • Advocate on behalf of individuals to ensure their needs are met.
  • Maintain accurate records and update databases in line with service requirements.
  • Undertake administrative duties, including use of Excel and internal systems.

Essential Skills and Attributes

  • Experience working with adults and/or families in a support-based role.
  • Knowledge of local services and community resources within Midlothian and/or Edinburgh.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Empathy and understanding of poverty and challenges faced by migrant communities.
  • Ability to manage a varied workload and work independently.
  • Competent IT skills, including experience using Excel and databases.
  • Ability to advocate effectively on behalf of service users.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car.

Desirable

  • Multilingual skills are welcomed (not essential); ability to communicate with clients in other languages is beneficial, though formal translation is not required.
