About the Role

21 Health and Social Care (21HSC) are a leading health and social care recruitment agency currently recruiting for experienced and motivated Children & Families Social Worker to join a Practice Team on a locum basis within a progressive Scottish local authority setting. Within this team, social workers hold longer-term cases, providing consistent relationship-based support to children and families. There is no duty requirement.

The caseload includes:

  • Child Protection
  • Looked After Children at Home
  • Permanence planning (including kinship and adoption planning)

This is a rewarding opportunity for a practitioner who thrives on meaningful, sustained work with children and families and is confident managing complex risk and planning processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of longer-term statutory cases.
  • Undertake child protection investigations and participate in case conferences.
  • Carry out comprehensive assessments and develop outcome-focused plans.
  • Support children who are looked after at home, ensuring robust multi-agency planning.
  • Progress permanence planning in line with Scottish legislation and best practice.
  • Prepare high-quality reports for hearings and court, including attendance at the Scottish Childrens Reporter Administration where required.
  • Work in partnership with families and multi-agency professionals to safeguard and promote positive outcomes.

Requirements

  • Degree in Social Work (or equivalent qualification recognised in Scotland).
  • Registered (or eligible for registration) with the Scottish Social Services Council.
  • Proven experience in Children & Families statutory work.
  • Strong knowledge of Scottish child care legislation and practice frameworks.
  • Experience in child protection, looked after children, and permanence planning.
  • Ability to manage risk and complexity with confidence and professionalism.
  • PVG membership (or willingness to obtain).
