Location: Various flexibility to travel to different locations within Edinburgh is required

About the Role: We are seeking an experienced Mental Health Officer (MHO) to join a team on a temporary basis. This role offers the opportunity to support mental health assessments and interventions across multiple locations, ensuring compliance with legal and professional standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake duties as an accredited Mental Health Officer (MHO).
  • Promote and maintain high standards of professional practice within the team.
  • Manage a caseload of complex mental health cases, prioritising and organising work effectively.
  • Fulfil all statutory responsibilities, including assessments, reports, and submissions to Appeals, Tribunals, Courts, and the Mental Welfare Commission, in line with legislation and Codes of Practice.
  • Stay up to date with changes in relevant legislation, policy, and best practice.
  • Seek appropriate budgetary authority for assessments and care management, reviewing care arrangements as needed.
  • Promote innovative approaches and represent social work positively within integrated teams and professional networks.
  • Collaborate with other professionals, third sector, and independent organisations to ensure a responsive, multidisciplinary approach to care.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Social Worker with SSSC registration/ability to register.
  • Must have completed formal MHO training.
  • Experience working as an MHO within the last 12 months.
  • Strong understanding of Scottish mental health legislation and best practice.
  • Excellent communication, advocacy, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel between multiple work locations.
