Contract Type: Permanent Full Time

Salary: £32,350.50 - £37,128.00 per annum (plus additional sleepover and on-call payments)

Salary Structure:

  • Grade 1: £32,350.50 (£16.59 per hour) - Fully qualified Residential Childcare Worker with a minimum of 2 years' experience
  • Grade 2: £35,158.50 (£18.03 per hour) - SVQ Level 4 qualified
  • Grade 3: £37,128.00 (£19.04 per hour) - SVQ Level 4 qualified and 2 years' experience in the Team Leader role

Additional Payments:

  • One sleepover per week required (£3,690 additional annual payment)
  • On-call rota participation (approximately one weekend in every six weeks) with a payment of £100 per weekend
  • Shared responsibility with the Registered Manager for midweek on-call cover within the service

21 HSC are recruiting on behalf of a well-established residential childcare provider seeking a dedicated and passionate Team Leader to join their growing team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced childcare professional to play a key leadership role in supporting children and young people to achieve positive outcomes within a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment.

Working closely with the Registered Manager, you will help lead and develop the staff team, oversee daily operations, and ensure the highest standards of care and safeguarding are maintained throughout the service.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the residential home.
  • Take responsibility for the service in the absence of the Registered Manager.
  • Lead shifts effectively, ensuring children and young people remain safe, supported, and engaged.
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare, development, and rights of children and young people.
  • Support admissions, transitions, and discharge planning to ensure positive experiences and outcomes.
  • Monitor and review care plans, risk assessments, outcomes, and children's records to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Conduct staff supervisions, appraisals, and performance reviews, supporting ongoing professional development.
  • Promote reflective practice and a positive team culture.
  • Mentor staff in recording and reporting safeguarding concerns, incidents, and significant events.
  • Support safer recruitment processes and maintain compliance with organisational policies and procedures.
  • Monitor medication practices and ensure safe administration procedures are followed.
  • Assist with rota planning to ensure appropriate staffing levels and skill mix across the service.
  • Support the delivery and monitoring of mandatory training and contribute to annual training plans.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with families, social workers, education providers, and other professionals.
  • Support quality assurance processes and inspection readiness.
  • Ensure health and safety standards are maintained throughout the home.
  • Participate in the management on-call rota and provide out-of-hours support as required.

Essential Skills and Attributes:

  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and trauma-informed practice.
  • Excellent leadership, mentoring, and coaching skills.
  • Knowledge of current residential childcare legislation, policy, and best practice.
  • Understanding of Care Inspectorate quality frameworks and regulatory standards.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with children, families, colleagues, and partner agencies.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and make informed decisions.
  • Commitment to upholding the UNCRC rights of every child and young person.
  • Flexible and proactive approach to leadership.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • HNC in a relevant subject.
  • SVQ Level 3 in Social Services (Children and Young People) or equivalent.
  • SVQ Level 4 in Social Services and Healthcare (Children and Young People), or currently working towards completion.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working within Residential Childcare or a similar setting.
  • Sound knowledge of safeguarding vulnerable children and young people.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
