The Howden Corporate & Commercial group is seeking a Claims Handler to support our clients in either the Edinburgh or Glasgow office. The role is hybrid and requires working 2 days per week from the selected office, with the rest remote. The Claims Handler will manage a portfolio of commercial property claims from initial report to settlement, ensuring compliance with internal service levels and industry standards.
Location: Edinburgh or Glasgow (hybrid; 2 days in‑office)
Key Responsibilities:
- Answer client phone and post enquiries and advise on claim procedures
- Register and manage First Notice of Loss (FNOL) ensuring claims are monitored within service level agreement and insurer bespoke arrangements
- Maintain diary, reports and ensure accurate post‑diary entries are matched
- Alert the Claims Manager to any issues or complaints
- Maintain compliance with Howden’s policy standards, CII Code of Ethics and GDPR
- Keep personal knowledge up‑to‑date through e‑learning, in‑house courses and professional qualifications to accumulate CPD points
Knowledge & Skills:
- 18‑month minimum experience in claims handling, preferably property claims
- Strong understanding of commercial insurance policies, coverage types and claims procedures
- Brokerage experience required to fully grasp the commercial insurance market
- High literacy and numeracy; ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Knowledge of Acturis system desirable
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
Qualifications:
- GCSE in Mathematics and English (minimum)
- A‑levels or equivalent desirable
- Cert CII and above desirable
