Our HGV Instructors play a crucial role in providing all our students a professional, experienced, supportive, and productive training environment, enabling the students to reach their attainable goals. Working closely with the depot managers to ensure all training equipment/vehicles are available and to the highest standard and ensuring efforts are aligned with company goals, while continually driving innovation and improvement to keep 2 Start Training at the forefront of the industry.
Training Sessions are 3.5 hours long and commence at 07:00 - 10:30 - 14:00. These times could change if only training two students in 1 day. For example, first student in @09:00 and the Second@12:30. All 3.5hr training sessions are to include a 15min brief on what is going to be covered in the lesson, a 15min break out on the road or in the yard, half way through the lesson and a 15 min de-brief once the lesson is concluded.
Key Responsibilities- Meet and greet students and give a full brief of what the training course entails and what they can expect.
- Support, encourage to help alleviate any nerves.
- Complete a document and drivers license check to ensure the student has the correct credentials to drive that category of vehicle.
- Complete vehicle pre-shift inspections to ensure the vehicle is roadworthy.
- Follow the company’s defect reporting system if any faults are found on the vehicle.
- Provide students with a high standard demonstration drive, showing them the required standard to achieve and demonstrating the procedures to be replicated.
- Lead and manage the training program to suit the students’ needs, offering suitable allocation to work on any areas of weakness.
- Students are instructed on how to use the training board with start times for the following day discussed.
- Deliver high quality driver and classroom-based training to the company’s clientele in a professional, supportive way to enable them to build confidence and meet their goals.
- Plan and liaise with colleagues to complete the revising exercise training and practical 3a reversing test.
- Ensure students are ready and arrive in good time for the practical driving test conducted by a DVSA examiner.
- The examiners debrief must be attended to be able to offer guidance and support to the student going forward.
- Gather feedback from the student about the courses they have attended.
- Build strong relationships with external suppliers, colleagues, directors, and examiners supporting excellent delivery and experience for all our students.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, developments and regulatory changes relevant to training and logistics.
- Ensure vehicles are clean and ready before being used by our students and they are pressure-washed once a week.
- Ensure the classrooms are set up before the course commences and left in a condition that is ready for the next instructor to use.
- Training vehicles are left with sufficient fuel for the next training session the vehicle has.
- Positively represent 2 Start Training in all interactions, both internally and externally.
- Contribute to a collaborative, respectful and professional working environment.
- Take part in company events, training sessions and team activities as required.
- Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development (CPD) and ongoing learning.
- Comply with all relevant company policies, procedures and standards.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties in line with the role and business needs, as requested by management.
- Must complete and keep an in date DBS. Any changes to this must be reported immediately to your line manager.
- Must complete a Driving License Check every 6 months. Any points received must be reported immediately to your line manager.
- Must hold or be working towards your Register of LGV Instructors Qualification.
- Strong ability to adapt and remain flexible according to changing deadlines and business needs.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to seek and incorporate feedback from colleagues.
- Proficient in using a computer.
- Strong fault recognition and fault rectification.
- Excellent communicator with the ability to explain scenarios at a level that can be easily understood.
