We are seeking a dedicated HSE Manager to join our team at our Gunstone's Bakery site, which is a long-standing and respected site, known for producing premium bakery products such as bread rolls and hot cross buns for high-profile retail partners including Marks & Spencer. This site is a high-performing, ROSPA Gold Award-winning operation with a Blue internal audit rating - the highest level achievable.

This is a site-based HSE leadership role, working closely with teams across production, engineering, quality, and technical. You'll support and guide teams while managing risk assessments, audits, investigations, and compliance documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the site HSE strategy, aligned with divisional and group goals
  • Own control measures for dust inhalation risks, particularly from flour/spice use
  • Manage PPE programs including PAPR units and respiratory protection
  • Ensure compliance with machinery safety, X-ray systems, and logistics operations
  • Deliver and support internal, external, and customer audits and conduct incident investigations, reporting, and follow-ups
  • Coach and engage teams in HSE best practices across all departments
  • Maintain and improve our Blue audit rating and ROSPA Gold standard
  • Support new project implementation while maintaining a safe working environment

About You

If you're an experienced HSE professional within the food manufacturing industry and ready to take ownership of site safety in a complex, high-performing environment - this role is for you.

Key Skills

  • Strong experience in an HSE role within a food manufacturing environment
  • Qualified to IOSH Managing Safely (minimum); NEBOSH General Certificate preferred
  • Experience managing dust and respiratory risks in a food or industrial setting is preferred
  • Understanding of food safety, allergen control, and hygiene compliance
  • Demonstrable experience with audits (internal, external, customer)
  • Level 2 Food safety qualification
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence across departments
  • High resilience and the ability to work effectively in a site with frequent change and operational challenges
