The General Manager will be responsible for the overall leadership, performance and day-to-day operation of The Builders Arms, ensuring the continued success of this award-winning independent community pub. The successful candidate will take ownership of all aspects of the business, driving sales, profitability, customer satisfaction and team performance whilst maintaining the pub's strong reputation within the local community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business Performance
    • Deliver agreed sales, profit and budget targets.
    • Manage all aspects of the pub's P&L performance.
    • Monitor key business metrics and identify opportunities for growth.
    • Control costs effectively whilst maintaining excellent standards.
    • Work closely with the Directors to develop and implement business plans.
  • Operations
    • Ensure smooth day-to-day operation of the pub.
    • Maintain exceptional standards of cleanliness, presentation and service.
    • Oversee cellar management and beverage quality.
    • Ensure compliance with all licensing, health and safety and food hygiene regulations.
    • Manage supplier relationships and ordering processes.
  • People Management
    • Recruit, train and develop a high-performing team.
    • Lead, motivate and support employees to deliver excellent customer service.
    • Manage staff rotas in line with business requirements.
    • Conduct performance reviews and address any performance issues appropriately.
    • Foster a positive and professional working culture.
  • Customer Experience
    • Create a welcoming and engaging environment for customers.
    • Build strong relationships with regular customers and the local community.
    • Handle customer feedback and complaints professionally.
    • Ensure consistently high standards of hospitality and service.
  • Stock and Financial Control
    • Manage stock ordering, stock control and stock security.
    • Monitor gross profit performance and minimise wastage.
    • Complete regular stock checks and investigate variances.
    • Ensure cash handling procedures are followed at all times.
  • Marketing and Community Engagement
    • Support local marketing initiatives and promotional activity.
    • Maintain the pub's reputation as a key community venue.
    • Develop events and activities appropriate to the pub's customer base.
    • Represent the business positively within the local area.
  • General
    • Act as a key holder and Designated Premises Supervisor where required.
    • Be flexible in working hours to meet the needs of the business.
    • Undertake any other reasonable duties required for the successful operation of the pub.
