The Role
As a Technical Artist, you sit at the intersection of art and technology, playing a key role in the delivery of our high-quality slot games. This dynamic role demands a unique blend of artistic vision, animation fundamentals and a robust understanding of programming. If you thrive on interdisciplinary collaboration and problem-solving, this role offers a fertile ground for both creativity and technical prowess. Our Technical Artist will work side-by-side with Game Designers, Lead Artists and Lead Programmers. The goal? To keep the artistry unadulterated, while optimizing the use of software systems used in game production. This includes everything from advising on technical resources, investigating new techniques, maintaining tools and pipelines, to ensuring the final art runs at peak efficiency without visual compromise.
Key Responsibilities
- Liaise between programming and design teams
- Research and develop technical tools for projects
- Set up art production workflows
- Support artists and programmers
- Assist in asset performance and validation
- Develop and maintain resources and pipelines
- Port finished art to the game engine
- Work within the game engine's limitations, curating file sizes
- Enforce standards as outlined by department heads
- Maintain technical documentation
- Resolve minor changes and technical issues related to resizing and unforeseen changes to existing artwork
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- Strong portfolio or demo reel
- Solid understanding of art and animation pipelines
- Experience with Spine 2D and After Effects
- Knowledge of rendering and post-processing techniques
- Ability to script or automate workflows (e.g. plugins or scripts)
- Experience with Photoshop and Illustrator integration
- Understanding of how to optimise assets for performance
- Clear communication skills across creative and technical teams
Technical knowledge
- Working knowledge of JavaScript and or C++
- Experience integrating assets into game engines
- Familiarity with tools such as TexturePacker
Desirable
- Experience with PixiJS
- Familiarity with Jira and Bitbucket
