1st Step Solutions are supporting a building services engineering company who have an opportunity for an Electrical Estimator based in Grays, Essex. (with site visits as required) Our client delivers Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing solutions across commercial, industrial and residential sectors.
Job Overview
Responsible for preparing accurate and competitive tenders for electrical and MEP projects. The role includes reviewing drawings and specifications, producing detailed cost plans, liaising with suppliers/subcontractors, and supporting the wider business in securing new work.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed electrical estimates for projects across commercial, industrial and residential sectors.
- Produce cost breakdowns, bills of quantities, take offs and pricing schedules.
- Obtain, evaluate and negotiate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Ensure supplier quotes comply with project specifications and offer best value.
- Assess labour, materials, equipment and prelim costs for electrical systems.
- Carry out risk identification and include allowances where required.
- Support development of pre-construction budgets and cost plans.
- Work closely with mechanical estimators, design engineers, project managers and the commercial team.
- Attend tender review meetings and present final tender submissions to management.
- Prepare tender clarifications, exclusions and assumptions.
- Produce final tender submissions, cost summaries and supporting documentation.
- Maintain accurate estimating records and updating cost databases.
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience as an Electrical Estimator within building services or electrical contracting.
- Strong technical understanding of electrical building services systems.
- Ability to review and interpret drawings, specifications and schedules.
- Proficiency in estimating software or digital take off tools (e.g., Trimble/Amtech, Estimation software, Bluebeam).
- Strong numerical, analytical and negotiation skills.
Desirable
- Experience in MEP estimating or combined M&E projects.
Qualifications
- HNC/HND, NVQ, or Degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services (advantageous).
- Proven track record in electrical estimating (required).
- CSCS card (or willingness to obtain).
