1st Step Solutions are supporting one of our clients who have an opportunity for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their Essex team.

About the Company

Our client is a specialist contractor delivering high quality electrical installations, including Sub Mains Distribution, Containment Systems, IRS (Integrated Reception Systems), Structured Data Cabling, and Fibre Optic Installations. With extensive experience in the Data Centre and Commercial Construction sectors, they offer a comprehensive service from design through to project delivery.

Overview

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Quantity Surveyor with a strong understanding of electrical installations to join their team. The ideal candidate will be confident, communicative, and capable of assessing contracts and managing risk effectively. This role will involve occasional travel to Mainland Europe and the Nordics for key site meetings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and manage cost estimates, budgets, and financial reports for electrical projects.
  • Assess and understand contracts to identify potential risks and liabilities.
  • Evaluate, monitor, and mitigate project risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure accurate forecasting and cost control.
  • Attend site visits as required, including occasional travel to Europe and the Nordics for essential meetings.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and internal teams to ensure clarity and alignment.

Essential Qualifications & Skills

  • Strong understanding of electrical small power & lighting, Submains, LV and HV installations.
  • Confident, professional communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to assess contracts and mitigate associated risks.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally and work away for important site meetings (travel and accommodation provided by MSL).

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Hands‐on experience working on the tools (preferred but not essential).
  • Experience with DC systems.
  • Previous experience in projects across Mainland Europe and the Nordics.
