1st Staff is a leading nationwide Alternative Provision provider. We specialise in supporting children and young people, aged 4-25, through delivering bespoke educational and holistic therapeutic support. We are working closely with Local Authorities to support young people throughout Essex. Our tutors work with young people who are unable to access mainstream education, due to SEN and SEMH needs, challenging behaviour and risk of permanent exclusion. We are currently seeking dedicated 1:1 Tutors in Clacton - On - Sea (Essex) and surrounding areas.

About the Role:

Your role will be to plan and deliver engaging, personalised learning sessions on a one-to-one basis to students. This is an incredibly rewarding role for someone who is patient, caring, and able to build strong, positive relationships with young people. Experience as a Teacher, Teaching Assistant, Tutor, or Mentor is highly desirable.

  • Location: Face to face in a Child's home, local library, or community centre
  • Role: 1:1 Outreach Tutor
  • Hours: Part-time or full-time
  • Most referrals: 10–15 hours per week
  • Full-time tutors: typically support multiple students
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Subjects: English and Maths

Responsibilities:

  • Assess students' academic levels and needs, to develop personalised lesson plans to address those needs.
  • Utilise effective teaching strategies to engage students and enhance their understanding of the subject matter.
  • Monitor and track students' progress, providing regular feedback.
  • Adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
  • Maintain a positive and supportive learning environment for students.

Required Skills:

  • Previous experience working with young people in an educational setting, such as tutoring, teaching, mentoring etc.
  • Confidence working with a range of SEN/SEMH needs and challenging behaviours.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively explain concepts to students of all ages.
  • Knowledge of various tutoring techniques.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to build rapport with students.
  • Flexibility in adapting to different student needs and learning styles.
  • Ability to plan and deliver engaging, structured lessons.
  • A flexible, supportive, and student-centred approach.

  • Having access to your own transport or the ability to travel is not essential but would be beneficial.

Pay range and compensation package:

Excellent hourly pay rates, dependent on experience and qualifications. Full-time opportunities available. Long-term and consistent work.
