The Role:
We're looking for an experienced Commercial Officer to join a government organisation supporting complex, high-value programmes.
This is a hands-on commercial role where you'll work closely with project teams and take ownership across procurement, sourcing, contract management and commercial activity. You'll be trusted to apply sound commercial judgement, manage risk and deliver the best possible outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise project teams on acquisition strategies and appropriate commercial approaches.
- Lead competitive and single-source procurements and sourcing activities.
- Develop invitations to tender or negotiate, including complex contracts involving bespoke terms and non-standard pricing.
- Manage higher-value and complex contracts throughout their lifecycle.
- Make authorised changes to contract cost and schedule.
- Take appropriate enforcement action and lead contractor performance assessments.
- Provide delivery and oversight of commercial sales activity.
- Act as a local expert across sourcing, contract management and sales.
- Monitor supplier performance, cost and contract-related management information.
- Identify commercial risks, assess trade-offs and determine appropriate risk mitigation.
- Take ownership of tender evaluation decisions and apply commercial expertise and judgement.
Experience:
- Proven experience working independently in a commercial role.
- Strong experience across sourcing, procurement and contract management.
- The ability to identify and implement the most appropriate commercial approach for different circumstances.
- Strong commercial analysis, judgement and decision-making skills.
- Experience evaluating tenders and making commercially sound recommendations.
- Understanding of supplier performance monitoring and cost analysis.
- Experience using contract management information and related systems.
- Confidence managing complex or higher-value commercial arrangements.
