Job Type: Full Time, Permanent
Salary: Up to £31,000 depending on experience
We are seeking a dedicated and professional Site Security Officer to join a friendly and established security team in Bedford. This is a permanent position, working on a set shift rota with additional hours required to cover staff absences, annual leave, weekends, and Bank Holidays. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the safety and security of the premises, reporting directly to the Senior Security Officer.
Please Note: Due to security clearance requirements, applicants must have at least 5 years of continuous UK residency. Unfortunately, we cannot consider applications that do not meet this essential requirement.
Key Responsibilities:
Monitor CCTV, intruder alarm systems, and access control systems
Manage ingress and egress to the site, including visitor/contractor logs and escorting duties
Act as the main point of contact for deliveries and switchboard (during and outside normal office hours)
Support Health & Safety with lone working arrangements
Conduct security patrols, including checks on perimeter fencing, and respond to alarms
Liaise with Emergency Services as needed
Maintain and update Fire Muster sheets
Perform ad-hoc duties as assigned by the Senior Security Officer or Department Manager
Ensure compliance with Health & Safety procedures and Quality Standards
Working Pattern:
12-hour shifts (day or night) on a 2-week rotating pattern:
- Week 1: 36 hours (Tuesday – Thursday)
- Week 2: 48 hours (Monday, Friday – Sunday)
Overtime is a required part of the role to cover staff absences and annual leave
Weekend and Bank Holiday working is included in the standard rota
Skills & Experience:
Previous experience as a Security Officer
Hold and maintain a valid First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong team player with attention to detail
Dependable, punctual, and professional in both attitude and appearance
Good public relations skills and ability to build effective working relationships at all levels
Basic IT literacy, including experience with Microsoft Office
Ability to obtain and maintain UK Government Security Clearance
