The Management Accountant is responsible for providing accurate, timely and insightful financial information to support effective decision-making. This role plays a key role in financial control, performance reporting, budgeting and forecasting, helping the business to understand performance, manage costs and drive continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial reporting
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts, including profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow reporting and associated KPIs
- Assist in month-end processes, ensuring journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet account reconciliations are completed in accordance with policies and deadlines
- Ensure compliance with UK accounting standards (e.g. UK GAAP or IFRS)
- Cash Flow
- Support cash flow forecasting and working capital management
- Internal Controls, Compliance and Audit
- Maintain strong financial controls and processes
- Ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations (VAT, corporation tax, CIS)
- Assist with year-end audit preparation and statutory reporting
- Budgeting & Forecasting
- Assist with the annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes, working closely with budget holders and senior leaders
- Produce meaningful financial analysis and commentary to explain business performance, trends, risks and opportunities
- Assist with creating and developing financial models to support business case development, commercial modelling and scenario analysis, using multiple data sources.
- Strategic Support
- Partner with operational and functional stakeholders to improve financial understanding and support sound commercial decision-making
- Support senior management with financial analysis and ad hoc reporting
- Analyse operational costs and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements
- Identify opportunities to improve finance processes, reporting quality and efficiency through continuous improvement
- Contribute to the wider finance team activity and projects as required, supporting business priorities and change initiatives
Skills and Attributes:
- ACCA, ACA or CIMA Qualified
- Previous experience in a Management Accountant or similar finance role
- Ability to work to tight deadlines
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, using multiple data sources
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders
- Experience using accounting software and ERP systems (IFS highly desirable)
- Excellent attention to detail and curiosity to understand more
