Accounts Manager

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Accounts Manager to lead our accounts team, ensuring the accurate recording of all financial transactions in compliance with UK GAAP/SORP and relevant regulations. You will play a key role in shaping and maintaining financial systems, managing core financial processes, and delivering timely reporting to support strategic decision-making.

Key ResponsibilitiesTeam Leadership & Compliance

  • Lead, support, and develop the accounts team to ensure accurate financial transaction recording and adherence to internal and external financial regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with UK GAAP, SORP, and relevant statutory obligations.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of robust financial policies, systems, and processes.
  • Promote continuous improvement and encourage a proactive approach to problem-solving within the team.

Financial Operations

  • Oversee the Sales and Purchase Ledger functions, ensuring timely invoicing, collections, payments, and proper authorisation in line with company policy.
  • Ensure all transactions are correctly coded and recorded using SAGE 200 and SICON.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date cash books, reconciling them weekly with bank statements and monthly with the general ledger.
  • Monitor and report potential bad debts to senior management.

VAT and CIS Compliance

  • Act as the company’s VAT and CIS specialist, advising internal teams on treatment and compliance.
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns (UK, Dubai, Ireland, and EU) and CIS returns on a timely basis.
  • Serve as the main point of contact with HMRC and external VAT consultants.

Payroll Management

  • Process monthly payroll for UK and Dubai staff, including quarterly commissions and PRP calculations.
  • Maintain employee payroll records and ensure compliance with PAYE legislation.
  • Prepare and submit year-end statutory payroll reports (P60s, P11Ds, etc.).
  • Reconcile all payroll-related nominal accounts monthly.

Fixed Assets Management

  • Maintain the Fixed Assets Register, including setup, monthly depreciation, and disposals.
  • Reconcile assets to the nominal ledger.

Financial Reporting & Audit Support

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts, year-end financial statements, and audit deliverables.
  • Perform month-end ledger procedures and prepare required journals (e.g., sick pay, overtime accruals).
  • Support the annual budgeting process, including headcount forecasts and depreciation planning.

Key Deliverables

  • Timely and accurate recording of financial data.
  • Development of internal controls and accounting processes.
  • High-quality management and statutory reporting.
  • Continuous improvement in use of SAGE and SICON systems.
  • Effective leadership and development of direct reports.
  • Fully compliant VAT, CIS, and payroll submissions.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Proven experience managing a finance or accounts team.
  • Hands-on experience with payroll processing and statutory reporting.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles in a multi-currency environment.
  • Experience in manufacturing or project-costing environments is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of VAT (UK, EU, and international), import/export VAT, CIS, and construction reverse charge.
  • Proficient in using accounting software (preferably SAGE 200, SAGE Payroll, and SICON) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiarity with the Data Protection Act as it applies to financial data.
  • Experience working with payment certificates and valuations.
  • Strong organisational skills with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
