We are seeking a Senior Business Development professional who thrives on helping companies deliver genuine, measurable transformation. The water sector is under intense pressure to modernise, by adopting data driven asset management while improving environmental performance and customer outcomes. We want someone who is energised by this challenge and passionate about turning complex problems into achievable, real world results for our clients.

You will think strategically at C‑suite level, shaping visions, building confidence, and aligning solutions with long‑term regulatory and organisational goals while also working tactically with operational leaders to ensure those visions translate into delivery on the ground. We are looking for someone who brings curiosity, commercial acumen, resilience, and a partnership‑first mindset. Someone who can blend sector insight with consultative selling to open new doors, challenge conventional thinking, and support water organisations on their journey toward modernisation, compliance, and sustainability.

Why are we recruiting now? The water industry is undergoing one of the most significant periods of transformation in its history. To meet the demands of AMP8 and the expectations of customers, regulators, and the environment, water companies must become genuinely data‑driven organisations. 1Spatial is uniquely positioned to help them get there. As a global leader in geospatial data, 1Spatial delivers solutions built on proven COTS technology that enable water companies to accurately identify and infer missing assets, improve the quality and reliability of foundational data, and automate the workflows that underpin efficient operations.

With stronger, cleaner data, water organisations can make better decisions, reducing leakage, managing storm overflow discharges more effectively, strengthening asset resilience, and improving service quality and sustainability. We have all the core components in place: validated technology, real‑world success stories, and a clear end‑to‑end roadmap that aligns directly with the sector’s AMP8 priorities. What we need now is the right senior commercial leader to bring this proposition to life, shaping it with our experts, taking it to market, and establishing 1Spatial as a trusted partner for water companies on their digital transformation journey.

What you will do:

  • Own and grow strategic accounts within the UK water sector, developing long‑term relationships with water companies, regulators, and key delivery partners to drive sustainable revenue growth.
  • Engage senior stakeholders (C‑suite, asset management, data, engineering and operational leaders) to understand strategic priorities and align them with 1Spatial's software and solution capabilities.
  • Shape and lead complex discovery engagements, helping customers articulate their transformation challenges around data‑driven asset management and defining a roadmap to support regulatory compliance, improved environmental performance, and greater operational efficiency.
  • Position 1Spatial's COTS software and solution offerings as critical enablers for AMP programmes, supporting customers from early vision through to funded delivery.
  • Lead high‑value bids and proposals, coordinating presales, product, delivery and partner inputs to create compelling, outcome‑focused propositions aligned to customer objectives.
  • Work closely with marketing and leadership teams to define sector messaging, account‑based campaigns, and thought‑leadership activities that strengthen 1Spatial's position in the water market.
  • Provide accurate pipeline management and forecasting, maintaining senior‑level visibility of opportunities, risks and revenue outlook through Salesforce.
  • Represent 1Spatial as a trusted industry partner, attending and speaking at water sector events, forums and customer workshops to build credibility and influence.
  • Support and shape the water sector go‑to‑market strategy, using customer insight to inform product direction, solution development and long‑term market positioning.

Requirements:

  • Proven water sector expertise: Demonstrable experience working within or selling into the UK water industry, with a strong understanding of regulatory drivers (including AMP programmes), asset management challenges, environmental obligations, and the role of data and digital transformation in improving operational and regulatory outcomes.
  • Senior stakeholder engagement: Demonstrable experience building trusted relationships with senior leaders across water organisations and acting as a credible strategic advisor.
  • Development of complex, high‑value opportunities: Experience identifying, qualifying and progressing large, multi‑stakeholder opportunities within the water sector, using a consultative, outcome‑led approach to align customer priorities with software and solution‑based offerings.
  • Pipeline ownership: Experience owning and forecasting a senior‑level sales pipeline, using CRM systems such as Salesforce to maintain commercial accuracy and visibility to achieve and exceed targets.
  • Consultative selling: Evidence of insight‑led selling, shaping customer thinking and aligning software and solution‑based offerings to strategic outcomes.
  • Leadership of bids and proposals: Proven experience leading complex bid and proposal processes, coordinating inputs from marketing, presales, product, delivery and partners, and producing high‑quality, competitive, customer‑focused propositions that articulate clear value and outcomes.
  • Geospatial experience: Knowledge of platforms such as Esri (ArcGIS), Safe Software FME and VertiGIS, and the roles they play within enterprise data and asset management solutions.
  • Articulate the business value of geospatial: Experience translating technical capability into outcomes such as improved asset management, data quality, operational efficiency and environmental performance.

Benefits:

  • A genuinely flexible working environment that supports your work‑life balance.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and advancement.
  • A chance to be part of an innovative and forward‑thinking company that has received a mention in The Sunday Times Best Places to Work 2025 list for medium‑sized organisations.
  • 25 days annual leave, plus a gifted day off to celebrate your birthday.
  • Free gym classes at our Cambridge office.
  • Option to buy or sell annual leave.
  • Pension scheme (employer and employee contributions).
