Looking for a senior role in children’s residential care where you can lead shifts, support the team and still be hands-on with young people?
We are recruiting for a Senior Children’s Residential Support Worker to join a child-focused residential home in Guildford.
You will be supporting young people aged 11 to 17 in a structured children’s home environment.
This role would suit someone who already understands residential childcare and is confident taking responsibility on shift.
This is a temp-to-perm role, with a genuine route into a permanent position once both sides are happy the fit is right.
The role
As a Senior Residential Support Worker, you will help lead the shift and support the smooth running of the home.
You will work closely with the Registered Manager, Deputy Manager and wider team to make sure young people receive consistent, safe and child-focused care.
You will also support junior staff, lead by example and help keep standards high across the home.
Main duties
- Lead shifts and support the day-to-day running of the home.
- Support young people with routines, education, activities and emotional wellbeing.
- Build strong and professional relationships with young people.
- Guide Support Workers during the shift.
- Lead handovers and make sure key information is shared clearly.
- Complete care records, daily logs, incident reports and safeguarding documentation.
- Follow care plans, behaviour support plans and risk assessments.
- Support activities, weekend planning and a safe home environment.
- What we’re looking for
We are looking for someone with children’s residential experience who is ready to step into a senior role, or someone already working as a Senior Support Worker who wants a new opportunity.
You will need to be calm, consistent and able to lead from the front.
The role needs someone who can support young people properly while also helping the team stay organised and focused.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a children’s residential care setting.
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or equivalent.
- Confident understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
- Able to lead shifts and support other staff.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable working a 2 on, 2 off rota.
- Enhanced DBS check required, or willingness to complete one.
Desirable
- Full UK driving licence.
- Experience supporting young people with EBD, trauma, complex needs or challenging behaviour.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, PACE or attachment-based approaches.
- Previous experience mentoring junior staff or leading handovers.
