We have a genuinely unique opportunity for an intelligent, adaptable and operationally minded Private Executive Assistant to support an internationally recognised journalist, author and commentator working across media, publishing, global affairs and new ventures.

The principal is a disarmingly witty former war correspondent with a background spanning journalism, defence and international affairs, and continues to operate at the intersection of media, policy and global security. He has an exceptional international network across military, political and security circles in the UK, US and beyond, and is currently developing a range of projects, including writing, research, events, travel initiatives and early-stage ideas. He is a wheelchair user supported by an established, energetic and effective care team experienced in supporting him including through challenging travel sometimes for several months on other continents. This is not a care role, but the EA will play an important part in ensuring that travel, logistics, and team scheduling are thoughtfully coordinated from a practical perspective. Those who are able to drive in the UK, US or Australia and support him during their working day and occasional evening are likely to be both competitively rewarded and also gain the most interesting experience, albeit with a frequent requirement for discretion and ability to read the room and situations.

Further details can be discussed at interview but this is a varied, hands-on role supporting a highly capable individual with a global schedule and a wide mix of priorities. You will sit at the centre of this, helping to keep things organised and running smoothly day to day. The principal travels frequently, including upcoming 2026 to the US, Australia and the Pacific, as well as more complex or challenging environments. While the role is primarily London-based, there may be opportunities to travel for those who wish to, or to manage UK-based operations while he is abroad.

It’s a rare opportunity to be involved in a diverse mix of work, people and environments, with exposure to interesting projects. It would suit someone highly capable, adaptable and adventurous, particularly those from environments that require strong operational awareness and calm decision making under pressure, such as challenging offshore environments, high-profile events, media, elite high-performance or endurance sport or military settings. Flexibility is key, and the principal is open to different working arrangements depending on the individual. The principal remains highly driven and is particularly keen on applications from those who match that mindset and bring their own experience, contacts, skills and expertise.

DUTIES TO INCLUDE

  • In the short term, supporting a busy period in London, including travel planning, event coordination and setting up key projects with potential global exposure and opportunities.
  • Longer term, supporting international travel and logistics, overseeing UK-based operations while the principal is abroad, and contributing to new projects and ventures.
  • Acting as a central coordination point across the principal’s professional and personal commitments, managing a busy and evolving diary across multiple time zones.
  • Coordinating complex travel, including multi-leg international trips.
  • Supporting the planning and delivery of live events and projects in London and beyond, liaising with a wide range of high-level contacts across media, policy and other sectors.
  • Managing correspondence and general communications, with experience of the discretion required in sometimes fluid and varied diplomatic, security and social contexts.
  • Ensuring the principal is prepared for meetings, travel and key commitments.
  • Supporting research and administration across writing, publishing and new projects.
  • Tracking ongoing projects and ensuring progress and follow-up.
  • Coordinating with the wider support network to ensure everything runs smoothly.
  • Handling ad hoc tasks and problem-solving as they arise.
  • Acting as a trusted, steady support in a busy and often unpredictable environment.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Not fazed by hands-on or non-traditional aspects of a support role.
  • Confident managing logistics and juggling multiple priorities.
  • Emotionally resilient with a calm, level-headed approach.
  • Good judgement and ability to prioritise.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Discreet, professional and trustworthy.
  • Able to work independently and take initiative.
  • Comfortable in a role that may evolve over time.
  • London-based with flexibility to be in person when needed.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Strong, verifiable references.
